quiet please

One of my aims this year was to be intentional about being quiet. Some call this meditation, some call it quiet time, some call it devotional time. Whatever it’s called, I’ve been aiming for it. So this is how it works for me.

When I step into my office I immediately open up my computer. Not to check my email but to put on some mood music. I then do some slow stretches in which I make certain that I focus on each breath and feel each muscle. After that, I sit down and read from a devotional book followed by a reading from the Bible. I then write in a journal.

I don’t do this every morning but it’s become a fairly regular routine. I’m learning a lot from these intentional moments of silence and meditation. For example, the days that I take part in this exercise I’m more aware of God’s presence in this world. That’s not to say that I don’t feel God’s presence on days that I don’t meditate but there is a difference. And that difference alone should be motivation for making this new year’s aim a constant in my life.
