I’m a huge fan of This American Life. It helps that the host of the show is Ira Glass. Laura and I listened to one episode after another on our recent roadtrip. One episode in particular got our attention.
In a day and age when Christianity doesn’t play well in popular media Act One of episodeĀ 344 titled Competition reminds everyone what the gospel really is all about. I implore you to listen as you will be moved by this story out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I’ll take Ira to another ENT on Monday for a second opinion on the surgery Ira is scheduled to have on January 16. This particular ENT doesn’t take our insurance but we’re being looked out for by another of Ira’s docs who thinks it’s prudent that we see this particular ENT. We wanted a second opinion but we just didn’t think it was gonna happen. We’re so thankful for Ira’s doc who is making this all happen at no expense to us. That’s good news.

I loved all the positive comments you gave on the foster parenting post. To be sure, this isn’t anything we are considering undertaking right now. Space is pretty tight here in Brooklyn and I really think there is wisdom in what several of you said about waiting until our kids are a bit older. Very wise. All in all, the comments you made gave me more courage to have this conversation in a couple of years. I think that’s good news.

We’re going to start a three week sermon series this next Sunday at CCFB called Once and For All that will explore the theological conviction that the work Jesus did on this earth through his life, death and resurrection was once and for all - for all time and for all people. In other words and to be clear, all of that work was not just for a chosen few who followed very specific steps and said very specific things at a very specific time. It was and is and will be for everyone. Everyone. I’ll write more about this as the Sundays roll around but for now let me just say that the proposition that Jesus’s work is for all time and for all people is truly good news.
Welcome to the blog of Joe Hays, minister for Christ's Church for Brooklyn. We are a loving community of believers who seek to be the hands and feet of Christ, in service to our neighbors in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn and beyond.
