My office is in a Brooklyn neighborhood called DUMBO - Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. DUMBO is situated right between the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge and overlooks the East River and the east side of Manhattan. It’s a pretty spectacular neighborhood that does pretty well considering that public transit isn’t all that accessible.
I’ve gotten used to seeing movie productions around the ‘hood (most recently, Chuck and Larry and I Am Legend) and about twice I week I see some kind of photo shoot taking place but today I saw a first.
Today I saw a music video being filmed. I’m not sure who the artist was and judging by the crew that was with him, he’s not anyone big and famous just yet. But there they were filming in the driving wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow. The particular scene I saw was of the lead singer walking up the sidewalk while singing some kind of rock love ballad.
Several folks were walking in front of him. There was the person at the head of the line who was asking folks to move off the sidewalk. (New Yorkers are surprisingly compliant with this kind of request.) Then there was the crew member with the big stereo system pumping out the song. Then the person guiding the camera-person and then the camera-person. Finally, the lead singer lip-syncing with all his might to his rock love ballad. It was kinda funny to watch and I noticed others snickering as well. The guy was lip-syncing with all he had but we could all tell that he only desired one thing - Get me out of this rain, sleet and snow!
